The LivingRoom, typically is the center of gathering….where we might chat with friends, watching tv and playing games with the kids. Usually, the sofa is a favorite piece! So, the question is, are firmer or softer cushions better?

Besides choosing the style and fabric of the sofa, it is important to consider the quality and personal comfort! Many people ask, so which is better? There is not an easy answer, so let’s talk about some of the pros and cons of the cushion style!
Many times a softer feel is enticing but is it a good option?
There are definitely some disadvantages with having a softer cushion. A soft sofa may be the obvious choice, but too comfortable of a sofa may actually be ruining your back. Soft sofas actually encourage people to slouch rather than facilitate good postural habits. Soft furniture may not give the spine and neck the support that is required. Sitting for long periods, especially in a slumped position, can add a tremendous amount of pressure to your back. This can lead to on-going aches and pains.

The support is so important, especially considering you might be sitting for a whole evening watching a movie! Are there other issues?
One of the biggest problems is getting up out of a piece of furniture that lets you sink down into it! Some people enjoy that sink in feeling, but for a person who has a harder time standing up, sofa cushions will be extremely difficult to get out of!
